Scripture: 1 Timothy 4:13–16

I. INTRODUCTION (ICE BREAKER)

Rhetorical Questions:
“You study every day for school—but when was the last time you studied the Bible?”
“We prepare for exams, but are we preparing our souls?”

Teenagers today live fast-paced city lives. Parents are busy working, screens are everywhere, and supervision is limited. Into this reality, the Apostle Paul writes to Timothy—a young pastor, a young believer, and a young learner of God’s Word.

II. TEXT BACKGROUND

Paul wrote 1 Timothy to encourage and guide Timothy, a young leader in Ephesus. Timothy was likely in his late teens or early twenties, facing false teachings and cultural pressure. Paul emphasized that ministry begins with learning and obeying God’s Word.

III. SERMON POINTS

I. GOD’S WORD MUST BE OUR LIFE PRIORITY (v.13)

The Greek word prosechō means “to give full attention.” God’s Word is not optional—it is central.

Cross References:
Psalm 119:105 – God’s Word is a lamp to our feet.
Joshua 1:8 – Meditate on the Book of the Law day and night.

Youth Application:

  • Set a daily Bible time like your school schedule.
  • Turn off phone notifications during devotion.

Transition: When God’s Word becomes our priority, it begins to shape who we are.

II. GOD’S WORD SHAPES OUR CHARACTER AND CALLING (v.14)

The Greek word charisma means “a divine gift.” God’s Word helps us discover and develop our God-given gifts.

Cross References:
Romans 12:6 – We have different gifts according to grace.
Proverbs 22:6 – Train up a child in the way he should go.

Illustration:
A teen who practices music without understanding notes can only imitate. Faith without Scripture is the same.

Youth Application:

  • Join youth Bible study or small groups.
  • Keep a spiritual journal.

Transition: God’s Word is not only learned—it must be lived.

III. GOD’S WORD MUST BE PRACTICED CONSISTENTLY (vv.15–16)

The Greek word meletaō means “to train diligently.” Learning Scripture leads to transformed living.

Cross References:
James 1:22 – Be doers of the Word.
Psalm 1:2–3 – Blessed is the one who delights in the Law of the Lord.

Youth Application:

  • Practice one Bible verse each week.
  • Say no to small sins.

IV. ACTIVITY / GROUP GAME

Game: “Word in Action”
Each group chooses a verse and performs a short drama applying it to school life.

V. CLOSING (CALL TO RESPONSE)

Teenagers who love God’s Word will not easily be carried away by the world.

Call:
“Will you choose God’s Word as the most important lesson in your life?”

Poetic Closing:
God’s Word is not only read,
but planted deep within our heart.

Rhyme:
Books for school we carry each day,
But God’s Word shows the truest way.
If life is to stand strong and true,
Learn God’s Word in all you do.
