The Grace Of The Lord Be With Us

31 Dec 2025 — St. Jesri HT Purba & AI
Sermon

Scripture: 2 Thessalonians 3:16–18

Sermon Opening

Beloved brothers and sisters in Christ, have we ever asked ourselves: “Where can true peace really be found in a restless world?” Many seek peace in stability, career, wealth, or relationships, yet anxiety still lingers. Why?

As Paul closes his letter to the Thessalonian church, he offers not a polite farewell, but a powerful benediction: the peace and grace of the Lord. These words anchor the Christian life.

Textual Background

The Thessalonian believers faced persecution, doctrinal confusion, and spiritual laziness. Paul responds with correction and encouragement. Verses 16–18 assure them that God’s grace continually sustains His people.

Point I – God Is the Source of True Peace

“Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace at all times in every way…”

  • Peace comes from God, not circumstances
The Greek word eirēnē reflects wholeness, echoing the Hebrew shalom.
    Cross-reference: John 14:27.
  • Peace is continual
God’s peace sustains civil servants, employees, merchants, youth, and parents alike.
  • Peace in every situation
Illustration: Like an anchor in a storm, God’s peace steadies the soul.

Point II – The Lord’s Presence Sustains Our Journey

“…The Lord be with you all.”

  • His presence is personal
    Cross-reference: Matthew 28:20.
  • His presence is communal
Faith is lived together in the body of Christ.
  • His presence empowers obedience
Illustration: A child walks boldly when holding a father’s hand.

Point III – Grace Is the Foundation of Christian Life

“The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.”

  • Grace (charis) is unearned favor
    Cross-reference: Ephesians 2:8.
  • Grace is centered on Christ
It flows from His death and resurrection.
  • Grace accompanies daily life
It enables integrity, faithfulness, purity, and perseverance.

Closing Call

If God’s peace calms us, His presence strengthens us, and His grace sustains us, let us surrender our lives anew to Him today.

Closing Poem:
Walking the road at break of day,
With hope that never fades away.
The grace of Christ our guiding light,
With peace and love till end of sight.
